Westconnex New M5, St Peters Interchange & Kingsgrove Sections
TOBCO is proud to announce it has completed its scope of work on the New Westconnex M5, St Peters Interchange and Kingsgrove sections. It was a pleasure working with CPB Dragados Samsung Joint Venture (CDSJV) to deliver this project and achieving the successful opening of the new M5 project for TFNSW. TOBCO was engaged in late 2016 at the commencement of the project to undertake an ASP level 1 utility relocation project. As time went on the client extended the scope to include multiple power, gas, communications, ITS relocation projects. One of the major milestones included 6 weeks of planning for TOBCO to undertake a complex Low Voltage Outage on feeder LV9. It was one of the largest Low Voltage Outages on for the utilities arm of Local Roads for the New M5, enabling much of the civil road and pavement works to continue. WestConnex Project Works One of TOBCOs engineers Jack Gale who was heavily involved in the project stated” The third and final night of “LV9” was by far the largest, with 4 truck mounted EWP’s, 3 Vac trucks, a lifter borer and our crane truck “Big Freddie” working away, not to mention the numerous trucks and excavators onsite all working in tandem with the specialist plant. That night 14 bays of overhead conductors were dropped and 9 wooden poles were removed in the space of a few hours to commission hundreds of metres of new underground LV cable. This is an achievement that I am especially proud of, many hours had been put into the project over the years planning and coordinating works to install conduit and pull cable which culminated into the commissioning phase of the outage itself, a job well done by all involved.” WestConnex New M5, St Peters Interchange & Kingsgrove Sections Gallery TOBCO will be working hard in the following years to grow the UTILITIES business to ensure it is one of the strong performers in its five core business units. Namoi River Crossing Project: Tamworth Regional Council
TOBCO is extremely excited to announce that it has been awarded a significant regional bridge project in Manilla NSW called the “Namoi River Crossing Project” for Tamworth Regional Council. The project involves the design and construction of a new bridge located approximately 450m upstream from the existing bridge. The existing heritage listed Manilla Bridge which crosses the Namoi River in Manilla presents a challenge for all vehicles. The length of the bridge (approximately 300m) means it is not always easy or safe to prepare for on-coming traffic. Heavy vehicles are currently required to give way to passenger vehicles and the length of the bridge makes it very difficult for heavy vehicles to determine when it is safe to cross. TOBCO, along with Barnson Engineering, (Design partner) was awarded the contract by providing a solution to build a new 140m long x 9.5m wide, 6 x 23.5m span 1000mm deep skewed super-T structure. The bridge will be elevated approximately 10m above the ground at its highest point. The substructure will consist of 5 x twin pile/column structures up to 1.5m diameter and 8 m bore depth. Abutments will be earth spill through embankments with rip rap scour protection. https://youtu.be/qppS9l0m5Xo?si=YcvWYiQ_eJVwb0tH Manilla Road (Main Road 63) is owned and maintained by Transport for NSW (TfNSW), formely Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). Business owners Sam Turnbull & Glen O’Brien said “Well done to our Northern NSW regional branch for securing this significant civil project. The construction of this new bridge and associated earthworks will allow TOBCO to further demonstrate its capability. We are happy that TOBCO has won this project in its own right as it builds on the experience of several people in the company that have previously built hundreds of bridges. We look forward to working alongside Manilla small businesses, local contractors and Tamworth Regional Council. “ Tamworth Regional Council has prioritised the need for the “Namoi River Crossing Project”. It successfully secured significant state government funding for this key piece of infrastructure. The proposed Namoi River Crossing will be four metres wider than the existing bridge. It is a necessary piece of infrastructure which will improve the road network, enabling future economic development and improving the safety for the community and tourists to the region. The crossing will improve efficiencies for local, regional and interstate transport companies, as well as the agricultural sector that are reliant on the transport industry. The majority of the bridge component of this project will be delivered entirely by TOBCOs own people and plant, reinforcing our capabilities to self-perform projects as a principal contractor.” TOBCO is looking forward to delivering this work for Tamworth Regional Council, whom will provide regular project updates at https://yourvoice.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/namoi-river-crossing-project. TOBCO Receives Formal Prequalification by TFNSW for the Installation of Traffic Signal and Its Systems in NSW
TOBCO is proud to announce its new status as prequalified TCS contractor in NSW, having recently been awarded the formal TFNSW prequalification for Traffic Signal and ITS systems (TS02) installations. As stated on the Transport for NSW website, the purpose of the Prequalification Scheme classifies contractors according to technical and managerial expertise, financial capacity and previous performance. This means TOBCO will continue to reap the rewards of its already successful role as turnkey road maintenance and traffic signal contractors in NSW. This major milestone is an integral step towards TOBCO’s continued expansion, allowing it to build upon an already diverse portfolio of capabilities in the fields of Civil and Electrical Infrastructure. TOBCO holds a broad range of prequalifications and accreditations in the Electrical Industry; the company also boasts TFNSW for Roadworks R2, Bridge Works B2 and Traffic Control Category G for RMS (Road Maintenance) contracts in NSW During the past six months, TOBCO has successfully completed its trial Traffic Control Signal (TCS) site at the Wiseman Ferry Road intersection and at Pacific Highway northbound on-ramps at Kariong, NSW. The latter works were part of the Kariong to Somersby road upgrade, a huge undertaking for our client, Fulton Hogan, with whom TOBCO were delighted to join forces. Traffic light installation companies such as TOBCO, who hold multiple Transport for NSW prequalifications, have the expertise, the network, and the experience to tender for ever-more complex road maintenance contracts with confidence. This latest acquisition adds the title of prequalified TCS contractors to an already impressive list. WISEMAN FERRY ROAD INTERSECTION TOBCO has become a highly successful traffic signal installation contractor in Sydney and state-wide thanks to its long-term position within the Civil and Electrical Infrastructure sector. Director Glen O’Brien is delighted with the latest addition, stating, “Entry to the Traffic Signal sector in NSW was an easy decision for us as we are constantly delivering works for and around signalised intersections with Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy. TOBCO has undertaken the installation of over 400 multi-function & Smart poles across Sydney; many of these have involved traffic signal sites (TCS). Once upon a time, we had to subcontract all the TCS work out, but now, with our prequalification, we can follow our principals of always self-performing work and provide some pretty unique capabilities for our clients, offering all assets relocations within a project. We have the civil resources in-house to deliver complex footing and trench infrastructure in brown field environments, along with the electricians to undertake the complex commissioning. We are extremely proud of the site team and management involved in successfully delivering our first trial site, fully self-performing these works. We look forward to the future of TOBCO and the growth of our TCS business in NSW”. TOBCO is refusing to rest on its laurels and will be working hard in the upcoming years to grow the NSW traffic control contractor side of the business and continue as an innovative, self-performing RMS contractor. We aim to ensure TOBCO remains one of the strongest performers within its five core business units well into the future.
