Project Update: Hume Highway – Road Widening & Intersection Improvement

Road widening and intersection improvement project on one of Australia’s major inter-city highways, Hume highway, has not just been challenging but also rewarding for TOBCO. Major challenges included frequent rainfall, very low temperatures and heavy vehicle movement necessitating strong civil engineering capabilities. At TOBCO, we welcome challenges as they offer a great opportunity to learn and demonstrate our strengths. Over the next few weeks, the construction will be completed adding another feather to our cap of successful projects. Project Update: Manilla Bridge – Namoi River Crossing Project

The 6 span Super T bridge over the Namoi river kept TOBCO’s FRP and Civil crews very busy over the last few months. The construction of this bridge had extreme challenges due to several rainfall events that caused the temporary access in the river to be overtopped at least 3 times. These challenges barely affected our highly motivated and experienced team and we are now finalising the project. The construction of this significant structure will come to an end over the next few weeks. https://youtu.be/FxqrzSoNl_0?si=Uggez_BZmDkkNYjP TOBCO will be working hard in the following years to grow the CIVIL business to ensure it is one of the strong performers in its five core business units. Sydney Football Stadium Redevelopment: Moore Park

TOBCO has been working hard around the clock to support the upcoming Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment in Moore Park. It has been a joy to work with our client, Fredon Industries, to deliver the 11kV HV feeders package which will support over 42,000 patrons in the stadium at any one time. Sydney Football Stadium Redevelopment – Moore Park The project involves the installation of over 2km of conduit and HV cable in some of the busiest roads in Sydney. Being in such a sensitive area, the project team has dealt with several challenges over the course of this project. The project’s environmental guidelines stated that crews could not work within the same work zone for more than two nights out of a seven-day period. Such restrictions led to an ever-changing program of works and prompt problem solving from both site and project team members. Delivery of an 11kv Hv Feeders Package Which Will Support over 42,000 Patrons in the Stadium at Any One Time. In addition to this, almost the entire trench excavation has been in hard rock making it tough work but the crew members have done an amazing job to persevere through the countless hours of rock-breaking. To add to this, the area is absolutely riddled with existing services such as direct buried 132kV transmission cables and an ancient Telstra access tunnel which was constructed in 1901! Due to this, the project team has had to implement an alternate methodology including boring techniques along with conventional trenching at over 2.5m deep in very tricky locations. This project has been active for 5 months now and is scheduled to complete by mid-July which is a good outcome considering the difficulties involved. TOBCO are proud of the team delivering this project who are demonstrating our 5 key values; in particular TEAM WORK, OWNING the project and portraying our CAN-DO attitude. Well done team and keep up the good work! If you need any utility works undertaken be sure to get in contact with our estimating team on 0280001224 or estimating@tobco.com.au WELL DONE #TEAMTOBCO

Stormwater Trash Trap for Northern Beaches Council

TOBCO is excited to announce the completion of an important local project in Newport, NSW for Northern Beaches Council. This involved the installation of a new Stormwater Trash Trap, as part of the Civil Infrastructure Works Panel. The project comprised construction a new trash trap to better manage stormwater debris at the base of McMahons Creek, which currently flows through the Crown of Newport Reserve. The new trash rack system will allow for more efficient future servicing of debris with an offline driveway system to access the site, which decreases the frequency of future maintenance visits for Council, and reduces the likelihood of blockage and subsequent localised flooding to the local reserve, and houses. Stormwater Trash Trap for Northern Beaches Council Project Works The scope of works included partial demolition of the existing trash rack structure, sandstone walls, fences and existing trees, installation of a new trash rack structure including concrete, fabricated hot-dipped galvanised structural steel inclusive of exclusion bars, letter box grates, debris control accessible fencing, bollards, erection of 2m high sandstone walls, and construction of a new 2m x 2m stormwater gulley pit over an existing 1350mm Stormwater Main. Additionally, the scope included landscaping of the immediate area and reserve involving reconfiguration of a grass swale, returfing 1300m2 of the reserve, tree transplantation, planting of almost 3000 shrubs and trees and new formalised access pathway for council maintenance vehicles. Re-grading of the creek entrance approach to the trash rack with rip rap as scour protection. The new trash rack improves the amenities for the creek, local residents who utilise the reserve for leisure, reduce risk of flood for immediately surrounding properties and improves maintenance of the stormwater infrastructure. Stormwater Trash Trap for Northern Beaches Council Gallery Considering the difficult access requirements of the project location, through a winding 2.5m wide access track from Howell Close, Newport, TOBCO utilised the full capability of our unique and diverse fleet of plant and machinery. Both of our Crane Trucks and posi track machines were utilised in combination to transport and off-load approximately 170 large sandstone blocks direct from the quarry to facilitate the sandstone wall construction. Council Team up with Tobco for Major Utility Spine Project

Parkes Shire Council in New South Wales recently teamed up with Australian-owned and organically-grown company, TOBCO, to deliver the construction of a major utilities spine spanning more than 3kms along Brolgan Road. This three-part install will allow future local businesses to access electricity, gas and communications assets, contributing to the Council’s plan of a major investment into the local community through the upgrade of the Brolgan Road Logistics Hub. Over a period of less than two months TOBCO completed a combined total of more than 9kms of trenching and conduit installation, utilising mostly local labour and materials. Parkes Shire Council Project Works TOBCO has access to some of the most advanced specialist trenching technology available, able to produce more than 800m of trenching in a single day whilst maintaining strict accuracy thanks to the onboard GPS systems. As the principal contractor TOBCO was responsible for engaging directly with GHD, Essential Energy, Jemena Gas and various communications providers throughout the successful delivery of the project. TOBCO also worked closely with ARTC to complete five 60m HDD under bores crossing the newly constructed Inland Rail line.
